THE ART OF BLENDING HERITAGE AND MODERNITY IN HIGH JEWELLERY
For five years, the Glenn Spiro store in Tropez, on Place des Lices, has been showcasing exclusive pieces designed for the summer season. How do Saint-Tropez and the French Riviera influence your sense of innovation?
Saint-Tropez is our second home. My son Joe fell in love with the building that houses our store. We present our latest creations there and also spend time designing new pieces for the coming year, while welcoming friends and customers to present our new products to them. Of course, the beauty of the French Riviera, its colors, its style have an influence on our work. How do you combine historical materials and innovative designs? “Materials of the Old World”, or “MOTOW”, is a collection that celebrates the warmth of ancient Baoulé gold and revisits some iconic works from the Old World. We imagine pieces that are both modern and steeped in history that will evoke an aesthetic emotion in those who admire them, and will never cease to inspire. Our approach is based on the alliance between singular design and exceptional know-how, sublimating rare gems and innovative materials. Joe and I have thus created a daring aesthetic, where each piece of jewelry, unconventional in its exuberant dimensions and colors, tells a unique story. Our creations seduce collectors, art lovers and lovers of exceptional jewelry.
What is the inspiration behind this “MOTOW” collection and its main challenges?
We have always acquired Baoulé stones, materials and pieces out of passion. When our collection grew, the idea of turning it into a line came up: MOTOW. A tribute to our heritage, this collection reflects our desire to push the boundaries of jewelry, combining history and modernity in daring creations. It all started with a necklace combining ancient ceramics and Egyptian turquoise. Since then, we have been exploring rare materials such as Roman glass, Mesopotamian agate or Egyptian earthenware, transformed into unique pieces.Joe has surrounded himself with experts in ancient pearls and tribal gold, allowing him to find rare treasures, which are at the origin of our most innovative creations.
