Chagall Museum
Inaugurated in 1973 in the presence of André Malraux, the Marc Chagall National Museum is the only French museum designed during the artist's lifetime and, according to his wishes. Designed around the monumental cycle of the Biblical Message - seventeen canvases inspired by Genesis, Exodus and the Song of Songs -, it offers a Mediterranean setting for one of the greatest masters of the 20th century. Located on Cimiez Hill in Nice, the museum brings together stained glass, mosaics, drawings and ceramics in a refined architecture, where spirituality, nature and light dialogue in silence.
Good to know
- Marc Chagall himself supervised the architecture, the garden, and the hanging of the works.
- A concert hall decorated by the artist and a peaceful Mediterranean garden are also discovered during the visit.
- In addition to the permanent collection, the museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions that bring Chagall's work into dialogue with modern or contemporary artists.
