Picasso Museum
-
Overlooking the Mediterranean from Château Grimaldi, this unique museum is the first in the world to have been dedicated to Pablo Picasso. Invited to work there in 1946, the artist created major works there, including La Joie de Vivre, still on display. Today, the place combines heritage, modernity and creation, bringing together paintings, drawings, ceramics and sculptures by the artist, but also works by Nicolas de Staël, Hans Hartung or Germaine Richier. The raw charm of old stones marries the light of the South, in a vibrant journey between art and history.
Good to know
- The museum is located in a 14th century castle, which has been classified as a historical monument since 1928.
- The large room on the second floor was once Picasso's studio.
- Temporary exhibitions punctuate each season, around the collection or invited artists.
